What is Sensory Integration?
The natural process of the body to use various sensory stimulus from the environment, process the information, and make an appropriate/adaptive response. It is the organization of the senses for use. The brain must organize sensations if the person is to move, learn, and behave appropriately. If the brain does not integrate (aka sensory integration dysfunction), process, and execute these sensations one's life may become disorganized.
Your child may display one or all of these possible signs/symptoms:
Clumsy, bumping into things, falling, tripping
Impulsive
Avoid movement and new activities
Decreased social interaction
Delayed developmental milestones
Behavior problems
Decreased attention to taste
Inability to explore new textures using hands and/or when eating
